GraphQL Schema to Prisma Schema Converter

Transform GraphQL SDL types into type-safe Prisma ORM models, foreign keys, and enums with inverted nullability.

At a glance

GraphQL Schema to Prisma Schema Converter is a free developer utility that transforms GraphQL SDL type definitions into declarative Prisma Schema (schema.prisma) models. It translates inverted nullability (! to required, unadorned to ?), synthesizes relation attributes and foreign keys, and outputs database models 100% client-side in browser memory.

Why Use This GraphQL Schema to Prisma Schema Converter?

Converts GraphQL SDL types into declarative Prisma ORM schema models
Accurately maps inverted nullability (! to required, unadorned to optional ?)
Synthesizes foreign keys and explicit Prisma @relation attributes for 1-to-N and 1-to-1 models
Configurable primary key strategies including cuid(), uuid(), and autoincrement()
Supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB, and SQL Server datasource blocks
100% client-side execution with complete privacy: zero server transmissions

How to Use GraphQL Schema to Prisma Schema Converter

1

Paste GraphQL SDL

Paste your GraphQL SDL type and enum definitions into the editor or pick a preset.

2

Configure Provider & Strategy

Select your database provider (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, etc.) and primary key strategy (cuid, uuid, autoincrement).

3

Copy or Download schema.prisma

Copy the generated schema.prisma models or download as a .prisma file.

GraphQL SDL to Prisma Schema example

Demonstrates converting User and Post types with inverted nullability, automatic foreign key authorId synthesis, and explicit @relation attribute pairing.

GraphQL SDL Source
type User {
  id: ID!
  name: String!
  email: String!
  posts: [Post!]!
}

type Post {
  id: ID!
  title: String!
  author: User!
}
Prisma Schema (schema.prisma) Processed
model User {
  id    String @id @default(cuid())
  name  String
  email String @unique
  posts Post[]
}

model Post {
  id       String @id @default(cuid())
  title    String
  author User @relation(fields: [authorId], references: [id])
  authorId String
}

Frequently Asked Questions

How does inverted nullability work between GraphQL and Prisma?
In GraphQL SDL, fields are nullable by default unless marked with an exclamation mark (!). In Prisma Schema, fields are required by default unless marked with a question mark (?). The generator maps GraphQL field: Type! to Prisma required field Type and unadorned field: Type to Prisma optional field Type?.
How are relationships handled in Prisma Schema?
GraphQL object references synthesize explicit Prisma @relation(fields: [authorId], references: [id]) attributes alongside corresponding scalar foreign key fields (e.g. authorId String). List fields synthesize corresponding array relations (e.g. posts Post[]).
Can I choose between CUID, UUID, and auto-increment primary keys?
Yes. You can select CUID (@default(cuid())), UUID (@default(uuid())), or Auto-Increment (@default(autoincrement())) from the toolbar, and all synthesized foreign keys will match the selected primary key type.
Is my GraphQL schema data kept private?
Yes, 100%. All parsing, type mapping, relation synthesis, and Prisma code generation occur entirely inside your browser's JavaScript engine. No schema code is ever sent to any remote server.

Methodology

This tool runs entirely in your browser. The example above shows a representative input and the result it produces.
