Prisma Schema to GraphQL Schema Generator

Transform Prisma ORM models, relations, and enums into clean GraphQL SDL types, queries, and mutations with inverted nullability.

At a glance

Prisma Schema to GraphQL Schema Generator is a free developer utility that transforms declarative Prisma ORM (schema.prisma) models into GraphQL Schema Definition Language (SDL). It handles inverted nullability (unadorned to !, ? to optional), synthesizes object graph relations, and generates CRUD queries, mutations, and inputs 100% client-side in browser memory.

Why Use This Prisma Schema to GraphQL Schema Generator?

Converts Prisma ORM models into clean GraphQL SDL type definitions
Accurately maps inverted nullability (unadorned Prisma to non-null !, ? to optional)
Translates object relations into GraphQL graph traversal fields
Optional foreign key toggle to include or omit underlying scalar foreign keys
Generates root Query, Mutation, and Create/Update input types automatically
100% client-side execution with complete privacy: zero server transmissions

How to Use Prisma Schema to GraphQL Schema Generator

1

Paste Prisma Schema

Paste your schema.prisma model and enum definitions into the editor or pick a preset.

2

Configure Generation Options

Toggle root Query, Mutation, and Input object generation, and foreign key visibility.

3

Copy or Download GraphQL SDL

Copy the generated GraphQL SDL types and operations or download as a .graphql file.

Prisma Schema to GraphQL SDL example

Demonstrates converting model User with required name/email mapped to String!, optional bio mapped to nullable String, and automatic root Query generation.

Prisma Schema Source
model User {
  id    String @id @default(cuid())
  name  String
  email String @unique
  bio   String?
  posts Post[]
}
GraphQL SDL Processed
type User {
  id:    ID!
  name:  String!
  email: String!
  bio:   String
  posts: [Post!]!
}

type Query {
  users: [User!]!
  user(id: ID!): User
}

Frequently Asked Questions

How does inverted nullability work between Prisma and GraphQL?
In Prisma Schema, fields are required by default unless marked with a question mark (?). In GraphQL SDL, fields are nullable by default unless marked with an exclamation mark (!). The generator translates required Prisma fields into non-null GraphQL fields (Type!) and optional Prisma fields into nullable GraphQL fields (Type).
How are Prisma relations mapped to GraphQL?
Relation fields pointing to other models are converted into GraphQL object types (e.g. author User becomes author: User!). You can toggle whether to include underlying foreign key scalar fields (like authorId: ID!) in the generated GraphQL types.
Does the generator output queries, mutations, and inputs?
Yes. By default, the generator creates list and single-item lookups under type Query, standard CRUD operations under type Mutation, and filtered Create<Model>Input and Update<Model>Input types.
Is my Prisma schema kept private?
Yes, 100%. All schema parsing, type inference, and GraphQL generation occur entirely inside your browser's local JavaScript environment. Zero schema data is ever transmitted to external servers.
