GraphQL Schema to Zod Schema Generator

Transform GraphQL Schema Definition Language (SDL) into type-safe Zod validation schemas with inverted nullability handling.

At a glance

GraphQL Schema to Zod Schema Generator is a free, client-side developer utility that converts GraphQL SDL definitions into type-safe Zod runtime validation schemas. It handles inverted nullability, nested list structures, input objects, enums, unions, and inferred TypeScript types entirely in your browser.

Why Use This GraphQL Schema to Zod Schema Generator?

Converts GraphQL SDL types, inputs, enums, and unions into Zod validation schemas
Accurately respects GraphQL inverted nullability rules (! non-null vs unadorned nullable)
Handles nested list structures ([String!]!, [String!], [String]!, [String])
Supports custom scalars (DateTime, JSON, UUID, Date) and configurable ID scalar mapping
100% client-side privacy: schema data never leaves your device

How to Use GraphQL Schema to Zod Schema Generator

1

Paste GraphQL SDL

Paste your GraphQL SDL schema definition into the editor or load a preset.

2

Configure Options

Select ID mapping (string vs union), schema naming style, and type alias preferences.

3

Copy or Export

Copy the generated Zod validation schemas or download as schemas.ts.

GraphQL SDL to Zod Schema Conversion

The generator parses the User type and Role enum, creates roleSchema and userSchema with accurate nullability and email validation, and exports inferred TypeScript types.

GraphQL SDL (Schema Definition) Source
type User {
  id: ID!
  name: String!
  email: String!
  bio: String
  role: Role!
}

enum Role {
  ADMIN
  MEMBER
  GUEST
}
Zod Schemas (TypeScript) Processed
import { z } from 'zod';

export const roleSchema = z.enum(['ADMIN', 'MEMBER', 'GUEST']);
export type Role = z.infer<typeof roleSchema>;

export const userSchema = z.object({
  id: z.string(),
  name: z.string(),
  email: z.string().email(),
  bio: z.string().nullable(),
  role: roleSchema,
});
export type User = z.infer<typeof userSchema>;

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the generator handle GraphQL inverted nullability?
In GraphQL, unadorned fields (name: String) are nullable by default, so the generator maps them to z.string().nullable(). Fields with exclamation marks (name: String!) are non-null and map to required z.string(). In input objects, unadorned fields are also given .optional().
How are GraphQL lists converted?
Lists are converted using z.array(). Inner and outer nullability are mapped independently, so [String!]! becomes z.array(z.string()), while [String] becomes z.array(z.string().nullable()).nullable().
Is my schema code private?
Yes, 100%. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser's local JavaScript engine. Zero data is transmitted to any external server.

Methodology

All AST processing runs 100% locally in browser memory with zero server uploads.
