Why Use This E-commerce Platform Pricing Calculator?

Side-by-side monthly and year-one cost for up to three e-commerce platform plans, with a GMV-based platform fee only above each plan's threshold and payment processing split into a percentage plus a per-order fee.
Effective take rate per plan (monthly cost divided by GMV) plus the runner-up difference, so a low subscription with a high processing rate does not look cheap by accident.
Separate 0.5x and 2x GMV winners, the exact GMV where each pair of plans ties, and the leader bands with orders and seats held constant.

$50,000 monthly GMV, 1,000 orders and 3 seats

Calculated from the rates shown. Rates are examples you can edit. Plan B processing: 2.90% × $50,000 = $1,450.00 plus 1,000 × $0.30 = $300.00, one extra seat at $15.00 and $20.00 of apps. Plan C processing: 2.55% × $50,000 = $1,275.00 plus 1,000 × $0.20 = $200.00, plus the $500.00 one-time cost in year one. Crossovers are the GMV where the pair ties, holding orders and seats constant.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an e-commerce platform cost?
It depends on the monthly subscription, any GMV-based platform fee, payment processing, paid apps, staff seats and one-time setup costs. The calculator combines those inputs into a monthly total, a year-one cost and an effective take rate; it does not assert vendor prices.
What is a GMV-based platform fee?
Some platforms charge a percentage of the value of goods sold through the store, often only above a monthly threshold. The calculator charges that percentage on GMV above the threshold you enter.
How does payment processing stack with the platform fee?
They are separate charges. The platform fee pays for the storefront software; processing pays the gateway and card networks. Both are percentages of GMV in this model, so they compound into the effective take rate.
Why does the cheapest platform change at $18,666.67 GMV?
Plan A has the lowest fixed costs but the highest processing rate, while Plan B trades a higher subscription for a lower rate. At $18,666.67 GMV the two cost the same; above it Plan B is cheaper because the rate difference outweighs the subscription gap.
What is the effective take rate?
It is the monthly platform cost divided by monthly GMV, shown as a percentage. It converts subscription, platform fees, processing, apps and seats into one number you can compare across plans.
Why does Plan B win at $25,000 GMV but Plan C at $100,000?
Plan B has a mid-range fixed cost and rate, so it wins the middle band. Plan C has the highest subscription but the lowest processing rate, so its advantage grows with GMV and it takes the lead above $27,142.86.
How does the platform fee threshold work?
The fee applies only to GMV above the threshold. A plan charging 0.50% above $20,000 collects $150.00 at $50,000 GMV and nothing at $15,000 GMV.
Are these real e-commerce platform prices?
No. Every rate is user-entered; the presets are example rates, not vendor quotes.
What is not included?
Taxes, currency conversion, chargebacks, reserve holds, app revenue shares, inventory, fulfillment, shipping and enterprise custom quotes are out of scope.
How is this different from a payment fee calculator?
A payment fee calculator prices one processing rate on one transaction amount. This tool models the whole platform stack: subscription, GMV fee, processing, apps, seats and one-time costs.

Methodology

Monthly total = subscription + platform fee + payment processing + app subscriptions + seat fees; platform fee = platform percentage × max(0, GMV − threshold); processing = processing percentage × GMV + fixed fee × orders. Year one = monthly × 12 + one-time costs; take rate = monthly ÷ GMV. All prices are user inputs.
